Displaying and storing your collection

Storing and displaying your foreign money properly will enhance your enjoyment of your hobby for many years to come.

There are several ways to accomplish this, and one of the easiest ways is by using photo album pages and a rigid three-ring binder.

Photo album pages
These are usually clear on both sides, and they are available at very large general stores (like WalMart), office supply stores (like OfficeMax or Office Depot), and large drug store chains (like Walgreens and CVS), among others.

Buy only photo album pages that say either "acid-free" or "archival quality". Pages made for 4" x 6" photos will fit most bills. Extra large bills may need the 5" x 7" photo size pages, but these are few and far between. The great majority of modern currency bills will fit nicely in the 4" x 6" size pockets.

Use a regular three-ring binder available at any of the stores mentioned above. These are the kind that college students use to hold their hole-punched ruled sheets.

Do not use binders that are more than 2 inches thick.

Once you have arranged your currency in this type of pages and binder, viewing them will be a breeze and extremely enjoyable. You will be proud of your collection. However, view them only while the binder is laying evenly on a flat surface, and turn each page carefully. Avoid turning several pages at once, as individual ones can get stuck. Photo album pages are usually not rigid and they can curl; and once the binder is closed, the page can become folded, also folding the bill inside it.

Foreign money in crisp uncirculated condition must not be stored in wet or humid environments. Keep them dry, away from direct sunlight and heat. In subtropical climates, air-conditioned rooms in the summer months is preferred.

Storing currency inside a book
Placing a bill inside a book to keep it flat is not recommended, but it would okay as long as the collectible is inside a glassine envelope. Use only hardcover books that have personal significance to you. Thin, softcover books, booklets and pamphlets can accidentally become folded or bent. Using an unimportant book can risk having the currency lost inadvertently, when disposing of the book while the bill is still inside.
