The second question is surely going to be how much you will receive when you sell your old money. To answer this, an appraisal of your foreign currency by a specialist is required, because an appraisal can be of great help in estimating current monetary values in the collector market, all factors considered (certain collector markets, like many other markets, can be relatively unstable, or even volatile, at times).

There are many coin and currency dealers who are very familiar with old American and foreign money, and how much they may be worth. The key is to find a person who is locally available to you, because currency bills need to be inspected in person. There is, unfortunately, no way around this.

It is important to keep in mind that it is not sufficient to describe to a currency dealer over the phone, or in an e-mail, what the bill says and what it looks like. Since the condition of the bill means almost everything when it comes to its value (the only other factor being the type of the bill), saying that "it is in pretty good condition" is not specific enough to an appraiser. Photocopies, scans, e-mail attachments, virtual images and photographs of currency, are inadequate for inspection, even if the method used for reproduction offers high resolution.

Selling your old foreign money bills could be either a relatively straightforward matter, or it may take some researching around your area, and perhaps even a few attempts at that. Whichever case it turns out to be, don't become discouraged. A little work can go a long way.
